House

In an episode of House, House has his eye on a massage therapist. She was attractive, with a tan, toned body and a big chest. She was very seductive, and he thought her to be sexy. These are characteristics of a common attractive female that would attract many males. Her curvy hour glass figure demonstrated a type of body most women try to obtain. She displayed dominance when House doubted her massage skills. She demanded, "Give me your hand." As she massaged it, he quickly stopped talking and concentrated on the feeling. Afterwards, she demanded him to take off his clothes. While she represents the popular physical look of a female, her dominant character represented masculinity.

Legally Blonde

In the movie Legally Blonde, a sorority girl, Elle Woods represents the common idea of a feminine girl. Her favorite color is pink, and most of her belongings are pink. Also, she owns a chihuahua, which she dresses up in different doggy clothes. This movie displays characteristics of the popular idea of a "girly" girl. She wears a new outfit everyday for her boyfriend hoping that he will propose. By dressing up for him, she hopes he will think she is extra pretty one day and decide to marry her. She strives to impress her boyfriend and does not go out in public in lazy clothes such as sweatpants.

One Tree Hill

During a recent episode of One Tree Hill, Payton discovers that her pregnancy could be dangerous to her health. There is a risk of her dying while giving birth to her child. Lucas, her husband, is hesitant on whether to pursue with this pregnancy. However, Payton is willing to risk her life for her child, and she insists on following through with it. This is due to her maternal instinct and willing to give up everything for a child she loves. This relates to the feminist quality of most mothers. They are caring and loving, and they are often willing to do anything that benefits their children. Payton does not act worried and does not have regrets with keeping the baby.

The Secret Life of an American Teenager finale

During the season finale, Amy finally has her baby. While Ricky, the baby's father, waited in the waiting room, he starts to get apprehensive and anxious. When he first sees the baby, he refuses to hold it. This shows how Ricky was in shock and frightened. Throughout the season, Ricky wanted to keep the baby and not put him up for adoption. However, while he waited, he questioned his ability to be a father. This displays the idea that even men get scared in life. They are not always confident and fearless like most people think when they hear the word masculinity. When Ricky finally holds the baby, his face changes completely. He looks happy and proud. At the end of the show, all of their friends went back to school. Amy stayed home in bed, and the final scene shows Ricky in the room with her holding their child. Ricky proves that he is going to stick by Amy's side and not neglect her or the baby. Men should be committed to their family and willing to support them. This goes along with the idea that the man of the house brings in most of the income and protects his family.

Reba

During an episode of Reba, Reba's son Jake wants to try out for the football team to spend time with his dad. However, Jake is known as a "momma's boy." He is afraid of someone hitting him, and during his first football practice, he curled up into the fetal position. At the beginning of this episode, Jake has feminine qualities. For example, he would rather sew, and he was not aggressive on the field. Therefore, his brother-in-law, Van, trained him. As a result, in Jake's football try outs, he got banned from the team from being too aggressive. He would run and knock everyone to the ground. This shows his transformation into being more masculine. He was no longer afraid of being hit and proved his strength to everyone on the team and in his family.

Real World

During this week's episode of the Real World Brooklyn, conflict arose between the girls and the boys of the house. The girls were not cleaning up after themselves. For example, they would not take out the trash, clean their dishes, or clean the bathrooms. As a result, the boys were doing all the cleaning around the house, and they began to get agitated. Most people view cleaning a house as a woman's job, therefore cleaning would be viewed more as a feminine task. However, in this episode, the women were lazy and irresponsible, and the men were hardworking, clean, and organized.

House

During a previous episode of House, one of House's best doctors, Cameron, decided to quit. At first he tried to hire new workers, but none of them amounted to her. House had been trying to persuade her to come back and work for them. Eventually, Cameron agreed to come back, but only if House would take her out on a date. House is an arrogant, rude, and lonely person, and has had this tough, independent masculine character throughout his previous episodes. He is also the best doctor at the hospital, and he often solves the most tedious cases that no one else can. This allows him to be well respected, and people put up with his sarcastic personality. However, during this epsiode, House agrees to take Cameron out on a date. While getting ready, he was nervous because he had not been on a date for a long time. This allowed viewers to see his sensitive side. As a result, this portrays the idea that despite how strong, independent, and tough men are, they can always be sweet and emotional.

Over the weekend, I watched the movie House Bunny. This movie is about a young Playboy girl, Shelly, who gets thrown out of the mansion and encounters the Zeta sorority girls. The Zetas were on the verge of losing their house, and they needed 30 pledges in order to keep it. Shelly becomes their house mother and tries to make the girls appealing to the fraternity boys. She thinks that if guys want to come party at their house then girls will want to pledge Zeta. This reflects on the current college life of society. It portrays sorority girls as girly and superficial. They tend to obsess about appearance and worry about what guys think. This shows the feminine side that most people think of when they hear the word "feminine," girls who love to shop, wear makeup, go taning, and get pedicures and manicures.

The Secret Life Of An American Teenager

This past Monday, January 26, 2009, there was a new episode of The Secret Life Of An American Teenager on ABC Family. During this episode, fifteen-year-old Amy was going to the doctor to find out the sex of her baby. Meanwhile, her boyfriend Ben longed to be with her while she discovered this wonderful news. He claimed that the man should be with his girlfriend/wife for support. However, Ben is not the father of the baby nor her husband. As a result, Amy did not want him to come with her because she thought it would be awkward since he has never seen her stomach. In response, Ben was upset, but he did not beg or force her to let him join. He only wants to make sure she is comfortable and happy. This event in the show displays the man as thoughtful and caring. Through Ben, the audience sees men as having a sensitive side. Considerate boyfriends and/or husbands are willing to do all they can to ensure their wife or girlfriend is content.

Primal Fear

Over the weekend, I watched the movie How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days.In this movie, Kate Hudson plays the role of Andie Anderson, Composure Magazine's "How to Girl." She agrees to date a guy for ten days while slowly driving him away by making common mistakes most girls make in relationships. This shows that many girls can be clingy, needy, and dependent in relationships. On the otherhand, Matthew McConaughey plays the role of Benjamin Barry, an advertisement executive. He places a bet with his boss claiming that he could make any girl fall in love with him. This shows that men can sometimes be overly confident and arrogant when it comes to women.
